About Vanden Avenne

Vanden Avenne: growing family company

The history of the family company Vanden Avenne goes back to 1889. Great-grandfather Zeno Vanden Avenne starts in Ooigem near the canal Roeselare - Lys with a flourishing business in agricultural supplies.

Together with his two sons he builds the foundation for a modern compound feed company, that will grow year after year.

Four generations later, Vanden Avenne has become under the direction of Patrick Vanden Avenne and his sons Thomas and Maurits, one of the major feed companies in Belgium.

Every day the impressive feed unit produces in Ooigem 2.000 tonnes of compound feed. However, the ambition of Vanden Avenne stretches far beyond that. Since 2010, Vanden Avenne has a completely new production unit in Floreffe, ten kilometres from Namur in Belgium.

This is the largest production unit of animal feed in Wallonia.

In 2010 Vanden Avenne has built a completely new production unit in Floreffe, ten kilometres from Namur in Belgium. This is the largest production unit of animal feed in Wallonia. This brand new unit has an annual capacity of 210.000 tonnes feed and serves, because of its unique location, farmers in Wallonia, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and northern France. In 2010 the Managing Director Patrick Vanden Avenne became chairman of the European compound feed federation FEFAC and this for a term of three years. As a result Vanden Avenne has become well known in quite a few countries across Europe.

In the past 25 years Vanden Avenne has tripled its turnover and has become the absolute number two of the Belgian feed production. A second feed mill has been started in Floreffe in a joint-venture with the Walloon cooperative Scam and is already running at full capacity. In the meantime Vanden Avenne had developed an important business unit for the processing of pork en poultry meat through its companies Sus Campiniae, Bens Vlees, Bens Retail and Halal Supply. The fifth generation has joined the company with Thomas Vanden Avenne who clears the way for the sixth generation.
